About ONONDETAILS
ONONDETAILS (Onon Details) is a furniture brand from Da Nang, Vietnam, founded in 2017 by the architect Truong Quang Vinh. Every piece is designed by Vinh and made by hand in our workshop in Thang An, Da Nang, near Hoi An.
We work mostly in oak, walnut and tropical hardwoods. Surfaces are chiselled by hand rather than textured by machine, some are burnt black with fire, and everything is finished with oil.
Truong Quang Vinh
Vinh is an architect. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Science and Technology in Da Nang in 2015 and started making furniture because he couldn’t find pieces good enough for his own projects. He draws on everyday Vietnamese culture, especially the old houses of Hội An and the crafts of Quang Nam, and describes his approach as “minimal, but precise”.
Key pieces
Gióng Rocking Horse. 32 strips of oak and walnut, the grain reversed from one strip to the next so the curve stays stable. One horse takes about 60 hours of hand work by two woodworkers. The first prototype failed; the form was reworked until the curve and the motion were right.
Hoàng Sa Coffee Table. Made in two ways, both in the Onon workshop: hand-carved burnt black wood, or hand-painted cobalt underglaze ceramic. The form comes from the waves of the central coast.
